Designed to suit the coastal character of Old Lonsdale and blend with the existing native landscape, the house is oriented north-east to frame views of retained tea-trees. Its form draws on the simple pitched-roof coastal houses of the area and sits low enough not to rise above the canopy.
Timber cladding continues from the exterior to interior walls and ceiling, masonry flooring ties it to the earth tones of the site, and the floating timber-lined roof twists through the trees. The material palette explores how materials age and patina over time - an 'ageing coast'.
